Region Information - Bordeaux

The region of Bordeaux is steeped in prestige. The largest fine-wine district in the world, it also produces more than any other wine region. The region is indeed vast, bringing with it consequent variation from east to west and north to south and can suffer from vintage generalisation or even over-simplification.

Simply put, one vintage may favour the regal structured Cabernet Sauvignon, another the lush textured Merlot, and hence bestow favours either on the Medoc, the Graves, or on the Right Bank.

In 2005, quality hit a dramatic high across appellations. Few indeed are vintages where quality across the diverse appellations is so homogenous. Even the quality of the lesser appellations, the satellites of Montagne-St-Emilion or Lalande de Pomerol chalked up the points, and humble Bordeaux-superieur attained qualities disproportionate to its standing. It is now that these lesser wines are starting to show their form. The appetite for well-priced Bordeaux is immense.

Whether you are in the market for keenly-priced drinking wines or more complex fine wines, Bordeaux draws many worthy wines to your attention.
